Laura Penrose is a Mortgage and Protection Advisor at Trusted Mortgage and Protection Advisors. In her role, she works closely with clients to help them understand their mortgage options and ensure they have the right financial protection in place. Her goal is not only to help people buy their homes but also to make sure they can continue living in those homes with financial security and peace of mind. At EliteX, we are proud to have Laura Penrose as part of the edition: Impactful Leaders Shaping the Mortgage Industry, 2026.

Laura began her journey in the mortgage industry in January 2025. Although she entered the field as a newcomer, she was deeply motivated to help people achieve homeownership and protect their families financially. Her path into the industry was shaped by a personal experience that changed the direction of her career. In 2023, her daughter became unwell and needed extra care and attention. One of her daughter’s wishes was for Laura to take her to and from school every day. After working in education for more than fifteen years, Laura realised that it was time to reconsider her career so she could spend more time at home with her family.

I believe success comes from hard work, positivity, and a genuine desire to help others.

During this challenging time, Laura reflected on her family’s financial situation. While she was fortunate to receive sick pay through her role in the council, she realised that her husband, who was self-employed, would not receive any financial support if he had to stop working. This moment raised important questions about financial protection and security. It sparked Laura’s interest in the mortgage and protection industry and encouraged her to explore how financial advice can protect families from unexpected circumstances.

Over the next six months, Laura focused on completing her CeMAP qualifications while continuing to care for her daughter and supporting her return to school. Fortunately, her daughter recovered and returned to full health, but the experience had already shaped Laura’s future career path. Today, she is proud to help other families purchase homes while also ensuring they are financially protected.

Her family has been one of the biggest inspirations behind her career choice. Alongside this personal motivation, Laura has always had an interest in property and enjoys helping others achieve important life goals. After fifteen years as a teacher, supporting people’s growth and development remained important to her. The mortgage industry provided a new way for her to continue helping individuals and families make meaningful progress in their lives.

Although Laura is still early in her mortgage career, she is already gaining recognition within the industry. She was recently nominated for the Rising Star Award at the TMG Awards, an achievement that reflects her dedication and passion for her work. In addition, Trusted Mortgage and Protection Advisors received the Outstanding Performance Award for firms with four or fewer advisors. These milestones have been encouraging and have strengthened her commitment to growing within the industry.

One change Laura has noticed in recent years is the growing importance of social media in the mortgage sector. She has embraced this shift in a unique and creative way through her social media platform called Makeup and Mortgages. While the concept may seem unusual at first, it reflects her background as a makeup artist and creative arts teacher. Laura enjoys sharing information about mortgages and protection while doing her makeup on camera. This approach allows her to speak comfortably about financial topics while also connecting with people in a more relaxed and memorable way. By blending two interests together, she has created a platform that helps people remember her and feel more comfortable discussing mortgages.

Trust and honest advice are the foundation of every successful mortgage journey.

Looking ahead to the future of the mortgage industry, Laura believes the market remains unpredictable. Interest rates and market conditions continue to change, which makes preparation more important than ever for clients. She often encourages people to speak with their mortgage advisors at least six months in advance so they can explore their options and secure suitable rates early. Being prepared allows clients to make more confident financial decisions.

Laura also believes that trust plays a crucial role in making mortgages more accessible. At Trusted Mortgage and Protection Advisors, clients are not charged any fees until they have successfully moved into their home. Only then do they receive their invoice. Laura strongly believes that people should not be asked to pay for services they may not receive. While this approach requires additional effort and patience, she believes that honesty and trust encourage long-term relationships with clients.

One of the biggest challenges Laura has faced was starting a completely new career close to the age of forty. Transitioning from education into the mortgage sector meant learning everything from the beginning and rebuilding her professional path. She approached this challenge with determination, a willingness to learn, and the confidence to ask for help when needed. Laura often describes her mindset as having a Positive Polly attitude. She believes that maintaining a positive outlook helps her continue learning and improving every day.

Laura places great value on teamwork and acknowledges that her progress would not have been possible without the support of the people around her. She sees herself as part of a wider team and appreciates the guidance and encouragement she has received from colleagues and mentors.

Ethics and transparency are central to Laura’s work as a mortgage advisor. She believes her responsibility is to present clients with clear information and explain all available options so they can make decisions that are right for their circumstances. By prioritising honesty and clarity, she helps clients feel confident throughout the mortgage process.

To remain informed about market changes and regulations, Laura regularly attends industry events, completes continuous professional development training, and studies updates from lenders. Staying informed allows her to offer clients the most relevant and reliable advice possible.
