Justine McKell has built a remarkable career by combining deep media experience with a genuine passion for helping others share their stories. As the founder of McKell Media, she has spent nearly two decades helping purpose-driven founders, educators, innovators, and industry leaders gain the visibility they deserve. Her journey reflects dedication, adaptability, and a strong belief that meaningful communication can create lasting impact. At EliteX, we are proud to have Justine McKell as part of the edition: Impactful Business Leaders Making a Difference, 2026.

Her professional journey began in regional radio, where she developed a strong understanding of broadcasting and storytelling. She worked her way through newsreading and breakfast radio before joining Nova, one of Australia’s leading radio networks. Her experience later expanded into producing roles at the Australian Radio Network, followed by working as a segment producer for the Today Show in Sydney. She also served as Executive Producer at Nova in Melbourne. These experiences gave her valuable insights into how newsrooms, producers, and journalists work, knowledge that would later become one of her greatest strengths.

After years in media, Justine transitioned into public relations and founded McKell Media in 2009. Unlike many publicists who approach media from the outside, she entered the industry with firsthand newsroom experience. This allows her to understand exactly what journalists need, how stories are selected, and what makes a message stand out. Her ability to bridge the gap between experts and mainstream audiences has become the foundation of her business.

“Success grows when honesty, consistency, and meaningful connections lead the way.”

Interestingly, becoming a business leader was never part of a carefully planned roadmap. As her agency grew in Sydney, she built a successful team of around eight employees. However, after relocating internationally with her young family, she made the decision to reshape her business model. Guided by her business coach, she shifted towards a boutique consultancy with fewer but deeper client relationships. This change aligned perfectly with her personality and values. Rather than focusing on managing a large number of clients, she chose to invest more time in understanding each client’s story, becoming an extension of their team, and delivering meaningful results.

Justine describes her leadership style as direct, relational, and quietly driven. She believes leadership is not about seeking attention or recognition but about consistently delivering excellent work, building strong relationships, and achieving measurable outcomes. Her calm and focused approach has helped create lasting partnerships built on trust and mutual respect.

The mission behind McKell Media is simple but powerful. Justine helps purpose-driven founders and organizations communicate their message in a way that mainstream media understands and values. Many of the experts she works with are creating groundbreaking work in fields such as health, education, consciousness, and human potential. While their expertise is often complex, her role is to simplify their message without losing its meaning. By translating technical ideas into compelling stories, she helps these innovators gain exposure through television, podcasts, major publications, and respected media platforms.

For Justine, making a difference means allowing her clients to focus on their expertise while she manages their visibility. Seeing a client secure new business opportunities, speaking engagements, or increased credibility through successful media exposure brings her the greatest satisfaction. Every successful interview, podcast appearance, or published feature becomes another step in helping meaningful ideas reach larger audiences.

Her leadership is guided by values that remain consistent regardless of industry trends. Honesty, reliability, and strong relationships shape every decision she makes. She believes in under-promising and over-delivering rather than making unrealistic commitments. This philosophy has resulted in an extraordinary client retention rate averaging more than 15 years, with some client relationships approaching nearly 17 years. In an industry where short-term engagements are common, this level of loyalty speaks volumes about her commitment and professionalism.

Like many entrepreneurs, Justine has faced challenges throughout her journey. Running a boutique agency required her to take on multiple roles, including strategist, writer, account manager, and financial administrator. These experiences strengthened her ability to prioritise effectively and recognise when to seek support from trusted collaborators. Every challenge helped shape a more focused and resilient business.

Innovation remains an important part of McKell Media’s evolution. With almost twenty years of business experience and a family background filled with entrepreneurs, Justine understands the everyday challenges business owners face. Today, she is actively exploring how artificial intelligence is changing public relations, marketing, and online visibility. She has expanded her services to include AI-informed search strategies and cold email outreach, helping founders generate meaningful business conversations alongside media coverage. Her vision is evolving beyond traditional public relations into a more integrated approach where visibility, marketing, and lead generation work together to support long-term business growth.

“Purpose becomes powerful when the right story reaches the right audience.”

Trust remains at the centre of every relationship she builds. She communicates openly, provides honest feedback, and draws from nearly two decades of experience across broadcasting, production, and public relations. Clients appreciate knowing they are working with someone who understands every side of the media process. Her loyalty and genuine investment in her clients’ success continue to strengthen these long-term partnerships.

Teamwork also plays a central role in her achievements. Successful public relations campaigns require collaboration between journalists, producers, freelancers, clients, and many other contributors. Justine sees herself as the connector who brings these relationships together to create successful outcomes. She believes that lasting success is always built through cooperation rather than individual effort.

Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, Justine believes artificial intelligence will continue transforming how public relations professionals create content and pitch stories. However, she also believes the human element will become even more valuable. Building authentic relationships with journalists, crafting genuinely engaging pitches, and identifying meaningful stories cannot be fully automated. She also recognises that media coverage now plays an important role in improving AI search visibility, creating a new strategic dimension for modern public relations.

Her advice to emerging leaders is practical and timeless. She encourages them to keep learning by surrounding themselves with knowledgeable people and never underestimate the value of direct conversations. While technology continues to evolve, genuine human connection remains one of the most powerful tools for building trust, creating opportunities, and making a lasting difference.

“Strong relationships create opportunities that no algorithm can replace.”
