Megan Bowen | CEO | Refine Labs
Megan is known for her operational mindset and her ability to connect people, systems, and revenue to create sustainable business growth. At EliteX, we are proud to have Megan Bowen as part of the edition: 05 Fearless Women in Business, 2026.
Her career reflects a deep understanding of how organizations function from the inside. Megan built her expertise by working across several business functions including account management, customer success, sales, marketing, and operations. This broad experience shaped her leadership style and allows her to approach business challenges with a practical and structured perspective. Even as CEO, she still thinks like an operator, constantly evaluating how teams work, how systems scale, and how companies protect and grow revenue.
“Leadership begins with self-awareness and the discipline to build for the long term.”
Megan’s professional foundation began during her seven years at an education technology company called eChalk. During this time, she developed a strong understanding of customer relationships and revenue protection. She learned that successful businesses are built by consistently delivering value to customers while managing contracts and long-term partnerships carefully. These early lessons helped her build the discipline that later guided her leadership in high-growth companies.
A key turning point in her career came when she joined Zocdoc. Megan believed strongly in the company’s potential and made the decision to join even though it meant taking a pay cut. Once there, she quickly noticed that the company lacked a structured post-sale customer management function. Recognizing the importance of this area, she built the case internally and created the team from the ground up. This experience strengthened her understanding of customer retention and long-term revenue growth.
Her next major chapter came at Grubhub, where she built the company’s account management organization during a period of rapid expansion. During this time, the company went through its public offering and completed multiple acquisitions. Managing these changes gave Megan valuable experience in scaling teams, protecting revenue, and leading organizations through complex transitions.
Later, at Managed by Q, Megan’s responsibilities expanded significantly. She led several key functions including sales, account management, marketing, and operations before eventually becoming Chief Operating Officer. The company later exited to WeWork, and the experience gave her further exposure to high-growth environments and strategic business decisions.
Megan eventually joined Refine Labs as Chief Operating Officer when the company was still small and in its early stage of development. In those early days, she handled nearly every aspect of the business, including recruiting, payroll, sales, and service delivery. This hands-on experience allowed her to understand the company at a very detailed level and helped lay the operational foundation for future growth.
Over time, her leadership helped the company scale. She later stepped into the role of CEO and, in July 2025, took an even bigger step by buying out the founder and becoming the majority owner with the support of investors. This transition marked a new chapter in both her career and the company’s journey.

Moving from COO to CEO required a major shift in mindset. As COO, Megan spent most of her time focused on daily execution and solving immediate operational challenges. As CEO and owner, her perspective had to expand. She now focuses on designing the company’s future, thinking in long-term cycles, and making decisions related to capital allocation, margins, acquisitions, and risk management. The transition required her to move from operator to architect.
One of the most difficult moments during the growth of Refine Labs came in 2022 when many B2B technology companies suddenly reduced their marketing budgets. The company had been growing rapidly and had hired many team members to support that growth. When market conditions shifted, difficult decisions had to be made, including layoffs. Megan describes this period as the hardest chapter of her career. However, the company focused on handling the situation responsibly by offering strong support and maintaining open communication with employees. The experience reinforced her belief that culture is truly tested during challenging moments.
“Strong companies are built by solving real problems, not chasing vanity metrics.”
Megan’s leadership philosophy is built around two core principles. The first is the importance of inner work in leadership. She believes that leaders must address their own internal challenges and continue developing personally, because unresolved issues eventually affect the organizations they lead. The second principle focuses on building a talent destination rather than simply a profit-driven company. Her belief is that when people succeed, customers succeed, and ultimately the company succeeds.
Looking ahead, Megan has a clear vision for the future of Refine Labs. She aims to build the company into a global destination for top marketing operators while becoming a leader in AI-enabled B2B growth strategy. The company plans to help technology businesses mature their go-to-market strategies by focusing on brand development, demand generation, and customer expansion.
She also believes that the future of B2B marketing will be shaped by the growing influence of artificial intelligence. While AI can accelerate execution, Megan emphasizes that companies must still focus on strong strategic thinking and business fundamentals. Organizations that understand when and why to use AI will have a significant advantage.

Through her leadership, Megan Bowen hopes to reshape how B2B companies approach growth. Rather than chasing short-term metrics, she advocates building strategies that create long-term, profitable results. At the same time, she hopes to prove that high performance and a people-first culture can exist together. For Megan, the true legacy of Refine Labs will be showing that strong financial results and an abundance mindset can grow side by side.
“People success drives customer success, and that ultimately drives company success.”
