Alison Williams built her career in insurance with a strong foundation in entrepreneurship, relationships, and service. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2002 with a degree in Entrepreneurship. During college, she was eager to gain real-world experience, so she secured an internship at Arthur J. Gallagher, one of the leading insurance brokerage and risk management firms.

That internship became the starting point of a career that would shape her professional identity. At EliteX, we are proud to have Alison Williams as Cover Story of the edition: Impactful Women in Insurance, 2026.
At Gallagher, Alison discovered that insurance was not just about policies and premiums. It was about relationships, trust, and helping clients protect what matters most. She learned that behind every policy was a business owner, a nonprofit leader, or a family depending on expert guidance. The entrepreneurial mindset she developed during her studies translated naturally into understanding client needs and building customized solutions. Her performance during the internship made a lasting impression, and she was offered a full-time position upon graduation. She accepted, grateful for the opportunity to begin her career in an industry she had come to respect.
Technology makes us efficient, but trust is what makes us valuable.
In 2006, Alison made a pivotal move. She left Gallagher alongside her mentor and joined Christensen Group Insurance as a Client Manager. This decision became one of the most important steps in her career. At Christensen Group, she found a culture that aligned with her values and supported her growth. Starting in client service gave her a deep understanding of policy administration, renewals, and the day-to-day operations that keep an insurance agency running smoothly. That operational knowledge became invaluable when she transitioned into a sales role in 2008.
Her path into insurance was also influenced by her father, who spent his entire career in the industry. Growing up, she had a close view of what a career in insurance could look like. She saw how he built long-term client relationships, helped people during challenging times, and maintained a strong work-life balance. Watching him showed her that insurance is built on trust, expertise, and genuine care. When she pursued her internship at Gallagher, she was not just following in his footsteps. She was beginning to create her own path in an industry that matched her skills and values.
Today, Alison serves as a Producer at Christensen Group Insurance. In this role, she builds and maintains client relationships while developing comprehensive insurance and risk management strategies. She works closely with organizations to understand their exposures, evaluate coverage needs, and create tailored solutions. Her responsibilities include prospecting, business development, renewal management, policy placement, and ongoing client advocacy. She sees herself not simply as a salesperson, but as a long-term advisor who helps clients operate with confidence.
Beyond her role as a Producer, Alison serves as the Human Services and Non-Profit Segment Leader within her agency. She specializes in serving organizations that do critical work in their communities. These groups often operate on tight budgets while managing significant exposure, from employment practices liability to professional liability and volunteer risks. Alison has developed deep expertise in understanding the unique challenges faced by nonprofits and human service organizations. Her goal is to provide cost-effective, comprehensive insurance solutions so that these organizations can focus on their missions without being distracted by risk concerns.
Mentorship is another important dimension of her work. Having benefited from strong mentors early in her career, Alison understands how transformative guidance can be. She mentors newer team members, helping them develop prospecting skills, build client relationships, and navigate complex insurance conversations. She shares not only technical knowledge but also lessons about resilience, preparation, and long-term thinking. Watching someone she has mentored succeed is as rewarding to her as achieving a personal production milestone.
Expertise earns respect, but relationships build lasting success.
Over the years, Alison has reached significant milestones. In 2018, she earned her Certified Insurance Counselor designation, strengthening her technical expertise and enhancing the value she brings to clients. That same year, she achieved one million dollars in her book of business, a major benchmark for any producer. For Alison, this milestone represented more than revenue. It validated the trust she had built and the consistency of her client-first approach.
Her work has also been recognized within the industry. In 2012, she received the Five Star Professional Award from Twin Cities Business Journal. She was later named among Insurance Business America’s 2024 Elite Women in Insurance by Insurance Business America and recognized as one of the top 50 women leaders of Minneapolis by Women We Admire for 2024 and 2025. These honors reflect not only her production success but also her leadership and community involvement.
Alison’s commitment to impact extends beyond her client work. She serves on nonprofit boards, where she contributes her expertise while deepening her understanding of the sector she serves professionally. Board service allows her to connect her career with her personal values. It keeps her grounded in the realities nonprofits face and strengthens her ability to advise them effectively.
Throughout her career, Alison has worked to create a more inclusive and supportive environment within insurance. She helped build a women’s network at Christensen Group to provide a space for connection, development, and peer support. She also built a cross-industry women’s network that connects professionals from agencies, carriers, and brokerage firms. These networks foster collaboration, mentorship, and shared learning. They create environments where women can discuss challenges openly, celebrate successes, and grow together.
As a woman in insurance, Alison has faced challenges, particularly early in her sales career. Transitioning into sales in her late twenties, she sometimes felt underestimated due to her age and gender. Rather than allowing those moments to discourage her, she responded by becoming exceptionally prepared. She led meetings with knowledge and confidence, letting her expertise speak for itself. Over time, initial skepticism turned into strong client loyalty.
She has also observed traditional networking dynamics that can sometimes feel exclusive. Instead of responding with frustration, Alison chooses to approach these situations with perspective and dialogue. She believes in creating change through collaboration and example. Her efforts to build women’s networks and advocate for inclusion are part of her response to these challenges. She is determined to ensure that the next generation of women in insurance feels supported and empowered.
When women support each other in this industry, we change the culture for good.
To stay current in a constantly evolving industry, Alison takes a proactive approach to professional development. She regularly attends continuing education courses to maintain her CIC designation. Christensen Group is a member of Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, commonly known as the Big I, which provides resources and advocacy updates. She also participates in the nonprofit and human services practice group within Assurex Global, collaborating with peers across the country to discuss emerging risks and best practices. In addition, she reads Insurance Business US and attends carrier meetings to stay informed about market conditions and new products.
Innovation and technology also play an important role in her work. She uses EPIC as an agency management system to organize client data and policies. For prospecting and research, she leverages AI tools and Apollo to identify potential clients and approach them strategically. Virtual meeting platforms have expanded her accessibility, especially for nonprofit clients with limited time and resources. Technology, for Alison, is not a replacement for relationships. It is a tool that allows her to be more efficient and more present in the moments that matter most.
Leadership, in Alison’s view, is grounded in authenticity, integrity, courage, and collaboration. She believes in showing up as her true self, building trust through honesty, and approaching setbacks with resilience. She values servant leadership, putting the success of clients and colleagues ahead of personal recognition. She also emphasizes balance and boundaries, rejecting the outdated idea that success requires constant sacrifice of personal life.
Balancing professional and personal responsibilities remains an ongoing practice for her. She relies on strong support systems, including her family and her team. She prioritizes workouts, travel, friendships, and reading as essential parts of her well-being. She intentionally sets boundaries around phone use at home and on vacation, recognizing that presence matters. She accepts that balance is not perfection but intention and adjustment across seasons of life.
Looking ahead, Alison’s goals focus on deepening impact rather than changing direction. She wants to mentor more women into sales roles, expand her book of business within the human services and nonprofit sector, and continue serving on nonprofit boards. She is committed to maintaining strong client relationships while continuing her professional education. She also aims to advocate for positive change within the industry, promoting inclusion and diverse talent.
Her message to women in insurance is clear. The industry offers meaningful opportunity, financial stability, and the chance to make a difference. She encourages women to seek mentors, invest in technical knowledge, build authentic relationships, and set healthy boundaries. She believes that there is room for everyone to succeed and that collaboration creates stronger outcomes than competition.
