Sara Ting – Planting the Sun Poem for a United World

Sara Ting 1

Sara Ting is the Founder and President of World Unity Inc., a visionary nonprofit dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion through a simple but powerful message known as the Sun Poem. She is a TEDx speaker, author, educator, and diversity and inclusion trainer who has spent four decades planting the seeds of unity in American culture and beyond.

At the center of her life’s work is a poem she wrote in a personal journal in 1978 that asks a timeless question – Are you greater than the sun that shines on everyone? Black, Brown, Yellow, Red and White – the sun does not discriminate. What began as a single poem has grown into a national movement with a global vision. At EliteX, we are proud to have Sara Ting as part of the edition: 10 Elite Women in Business, 2026.

Through World Unity Inc., Sara leads initiatives to bring the Sun Poem to America and the world. Her long-term vision is to build a permanent World Unity Landmark that showcases the Sun Poem as a public reminder of our shared humanity. She believes that art, education, and reflection can shape culture in powerful ways. The landmark is not only a physical structure but a symbol of equality and unity that future generations can visit and learn from.

True leadership begins with seeing the humanity in every person.

A defining milestone in her career came in 2025, when she reached 40 years of dedicating her life to advancing the Sun Poem and the vision of the World Unity Landmark. For Sara, this moment was more than a personal achievement. It affirmed that the message has a timeless purpose. Over the years, the poem has expanded into a TEDx Talk, educational programs, a song inspired by its words, and a growing presence through technology. What once lived on paper now has the power to reach millions around the world. Reaching the 40-year mark reminded her that although change can be slow, vision combined with perseverance can create lasting cultural impact.

Her journey has not been without challenges. One of the biggest has been raising funds and securing a permanent site for the World Unity Landmark. There were moments of hope, including official designation for a site, followed by disappointment when that opportunity was taken away after 16 years of dedication to finalizing it. Yet she and her team persevered and eventually found a new home for the vision. Today, one of the organization’s primary goals is to raise five million dollars to build the landmark. In the early years, a generous ten-thousand-dollar gift affirmed the mission at a time when resources did not exist. That act of faith strengthened her resolve. She continues to seek leaders and supporters who want to leave a legacy of equality for humanity. Through every setback, her belief that with God all things are possible has sustained her.

Several vital skills have supported Sara’s success. She credits self-awareness as a foundation, along with patience and perseverance. Her ability to communicate clearly and hold a vision that speaks deeply to her heart has kept her focused through decades of effort. Staying positive, even during long periods of uncertainty, has allowed her to continue moving forward. At the center of everything is her faith in God, which she describes as the foundation that sustains her work and her spirit.

Sara stays motivated by remembering the lives touched by the Sun Poem. She recalls the president of a company who encouraged her to continue the mission, saying the world needs it. She remembers children who learned the song inspired by the poem, including one boy who shared that singing it made him feel like he could do anything. Stories like these remind her that the message matters. They reinforce her belief that she cannot quit and that perseverance serves a greater purpose.

Her leadership philosophy begins with humanity first. Her faith guides her quietly and is expressed through humility, patience, and a commitment to seeing the humanity in others. She believes shared humanity is the foundation of effective leadership. She is inspired by timeless wisdom from thinkers such as Albert Einstein, who encouraged rising to higher consciousness, Aristotle, who emphasized educating the heart, and Marie Curie, who believed a better world begins with improving ourselves. These principles, combined with deep self-awareness and faith, shape how she leads and serves.

When we choose unity over division, we rise together.

She maintains balance by keeping her life simple and staying open and flexible with her time. For her, simplicity creates richness in meaning and experience. She takes life one day at a time and allows space for the unexpected. This approach helps her remain grounded while pursuing a vision that spans generations.

Sara advises others to be driven by a vision that speaks to the heart. She encourages self-awareness, clear communication, patience, perseverance, flexibility, humility and imagination. Most importantly, she believes people should commit to something greater than themselves. For her, that greater source has always been her faith in God.

Her parents, as Asian immigrants who overcame enormous challenges, have been a deep source of inspiration. She also draws strength from leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Marie Curie, and Mother Teresa for their courage and commitment to humanity. Learning about Jesus Christ and his example of love, sacrifice, and perseverance has guided her professional journey and strengthened her resolve.

Looking at the future, Sara observes that technology and artificial intelligence are accelerating the business world, sometimes at the cost of human connection. She sees less emphasis on patience, collaboration, and listening. She is concerned about how social media and the internet are shaping young minds. For her, the real challenge ahead is protecting the human spirit and consciousness in a digital world while still using technology to spread messages of unity.

Within her organization, she raises thoughtful questions and remains transparent about challenges. Conversations are open and grounded in respect for different perspectives. As a nonprofit, World Unity Inc. is guided by values at the heart of its mission – equality, diversity, inclusion, accountability, transparency, honesty, collaboration, and respect.

One primary goal is to realize the vision she has nurtured for more than three decades – building the World Unity Landmark. She also hopes the Sun Poem and its song can be presented at a major global event to inspire self-reflection and unity worldwide and become planted in the human consciousness. At its core, the message is simple. Be like the sun and shine on everyone. Nature teaches how to live. The sun shines. The rose blooms. The river flows. And no one can tell you who you are except you.

The sun shines on everyone, and so can we.
