In her current role, Nicole partners closely with hotel owners and investors, guiding them through growth, operational improvement, and brand alignment. She develops sales and marketing strategies, analyzes performance trends, forecasts market shifts, and mentors leaders to strengthen both revenue and culture. Her leadership style is rooted in accountability, collaboration, and genuine respect for the people behind the numbers. She believes performance is strongest when people feel supported, empowered, and aligned with a clear vision.

When women lead with integrity and empathy, industries transform.

Nicole’s journey into hospitality was not originally planned. She began her career as a night auditor while attending college for Sports Medicine. Three years into her studies, she realized that the medical field was not the right path for her. Instead of seeing this as a setback, she viewed it as a moment of clarity. During that time, she discovered how much she enjoyed working in hospitality. The fast pace, problem solving, and human connection inspired her to shift direction and fully commit to the industry.

She steadily advanced from night auditor to General Manager, building operational expertise and leadership confidence along the way. With the faith and support of a mentor, she stepped into regional roles, assisting with operations and construction projects. That transition marked a turning point in her career, expanding her understanding of multi-property management and strategic oversight. She later moved into corporate leadership, where she continued to grow her influence and impact.

A significant chapter of her career was her 15-year tenure with Choice Hotels International. During that time, she strengthened her expertise in franchise services, brand operations, owner engagement, and revenue management. She managed a 98-property portfolio across multiple states and built lasting relationships with franchise partners. Her focus was always on operational excellence, revenue growth, and strategic development. Her consistent performance earned her multiple industry awards and recognition for excellence and service.

Throughout her career, Nicole faced challenges that many women in hospitality leadership encounter. She often navigated spaces that were predominantly male, especially in ownership meetings, development discussions, and regional operational roles. Early on, she felt the pressure to work harder to establish credibility. Balancing leadership responsibilities with being a mother of two daughters added another layer of complexity, requiring time management, travel, and personal sacrifice.

She learned that preparation was her greatest advantage. Knowing her numbers, understanding performance indices, anticipating objections, and presenting solutions rather than just reports shifted the dynamic in leadership conversations. Confidence rooted in competence became her foundation. She also recognized that women in leadership are sometimes judged differently for behaviors that are praised in others. Instead of changing who she was, she leaned into authenticity, combining data-driven strategy with emotional intelligence and relationship building.

Confidence rooted in competence will always command respect.

Nicole also expanded her voice through active involvement in industry organizations such as HSMAI, AAHOA, and AHLA. These networks strengthened her professional presence, broadened her perspective, and reinforced her credibility beyond her immediate role. She views those experiences as critical to her growth. The challenges she faced ultimately sharpened her resilience and deepened her commitment to mentoring other women so the path forward becomes more inclusive.

Creating a positive and inclusive work culture is central to her leadership philosophy. She believes culture is not accidental but intentionally built through daily habits, clear values, and consistent behavior. For Nicole, an inclusive organization stands on three pillars: respect, equity, and accountability. Without accountability, inclusion loses credibility. Without equity, positivity feels superficial. Without respect, nothing works. She emphasizes alignment between these pillars and works alongside leaders who demonstrate inclusive behaviors in real and visible ways.

Mentorship is another important part of her leadership journey. She understands that hospitality remains an industry where women represent a large portion of the workforce but are still underrepresented in senior and executive roles. By sharing her experiences, challenges, and lessons learned, she helps emerging leaders build confidence. She encourages women to strengthen their skills, develop their voice, and take ownership of their achievements. She serves as both mentor and cheerleader, especially in an industry that moves quickly and demands resilience.

Her advice to young women who aspire to lead in hospitality is direct and empowering. She encourages them not to wait for permission to step forward. Confidence comes from competence, and mastering the fundamentals is essential. Preparation for challenges, obstacles, and opportunities builds long-term credibility. She believes empathy, emotional intelligence, and collaboration are strengths, not weaknesses. Leading with integrity, professionalism, and authenticity creates influence that extends beyond a resume.

Nicole McAlister’s career reflects growth, courage, and purpose. From night auditor to corporate leader, she has built a legacy rooted in strategy, service, and empowerment. She continues to shape the hospitality industry by developing leaders, strengthening partnerships, and proving that strong performance and strong values can thrive together.

Strong leadership begins with preparation, courage, and authentic connection.
