Iris E. Gisladottir | Co-Founder | Evolytes
Iris E. Gisladottir is the Co-Founder of Evolytes, an educational platform designed to revolutionize the way children learn math. By incorporating gamification, adaptive learning, and real-time analytics, it enables students to grasp mathematical concepts up faster and more effectively while making the learning experience engaging and enjoyable. The inspiration behind this innovative approach stems from a deep passion for education and a frustration with traditional teaching methods, which often fail to capture young learners’ interest. By merging psychology, pedagogy and modern game design, mathematical learning is turned into an adventure rather than a chore. At EliteX, we are proud to have Iris E. Gisladottir as part of the edition: Impactful Female Entrepreneurs to Watch, 2025.
Traditional teaching methods tend to leave students behind, particularly in mathematics, where early learning gaps can prevent further progress. This often results in many students believing they are simply “not math people.” However, research does not support the idea that some individuals are naturally predisposed to excel in math while others are not. The conventional approach of teaching a concept, testing, and moving forward without ensuring understanding, leads to students struggling with more advanced topics. Over time, this systematic issue causes many to give up. The ultimate goal is to eliminate the phrase “I am just not a math person” from the vocabulary of learners, demonstrating that with practice and personalized pacing, anyone can build a strong mathematical foundation.

“Real innovation happens in the unknown and on less-travelled paths.”
Starting Evolytes came with its share of challenges. Coming from a country where educational content is controlled by a government-run monopoly, with minimal budgets allocated for schools to purchase educational materials, was a significant hurdles. Not only because this made it nearly impossible to prove market fit for the product locally, but because major players, like investors and key decision makers, where very skeptical of the existance of an EdTech industry.
To address this, Iris co-founded the Icelandic EdTech Industry within the Federation of Industries to demonstrate the sector’s viability and importance for the future skills of children. ,,When I started this journey I didn’t think I would have to be so involved with policymaking and landscape building, on top of navigating product development and getting my start-up up and running. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, with its shares of ups and downs, but I do enjoy the ride!”

One of the most important lessons learned in this entrepreneurial journey is the necessity of adaptability. No matter how well planned, unexpected challenges always arise, whether due to market shifts, technical difficulties, or logistical roadblocks. The ability to pivot and find creative solutions is what separates successful entrepreneurs from the rest. Additionally, building a strong, diverse team is crucial. Innovation flourishes when individuals with different perspectives and expertise collaborate toward a common goal.
Trusting one’s instincts is another invaluable lesson. Traditional methods should not be followed blindly, as true entrepreneurship does not come from simply following the crowd. While listening to advisors is important, ultimately, every entrepreneur must make their own decisions. In instances where external advice was followed against instinct, the company faced significant setbacks. Believing in oneself and embracing uncertainty are key to fostering real innovation.
“Everyone can learn math if they practice and do so at their own pace.”
Evolytes has a profound impact on education by making high-quality learning accessible and engaging. The adaptive platform ensures that all children, including those with ADHD or learning difficulties, receive personalized instruction suited to their needs. Beyond academics, the platform also helps shift attitudes toward math. Many students initially feel anxious or disinterested in the subject but develop confidence and a positive relationship with learning through Evolytes. Strong foundational math skills are essential for various aspects of life, from rational thinking to financial decision-making. By equipping children with these critical problem-solving skills, the platform contributes to their lifelong success.
What sets Evolytes apart from other educational tools is its unique approach. The platform combines three essential elements: a high-quality adventure-based game that rivals entertainment games, a real-time monitoring system for teachers, and integrated books that support a blended learning experience. Unlike most products that rely on mini-games, Evolytes offers a deeply immersive experience that keeps students engaged for extended periods. Additionally, the system adapts in real time to each student’s learning pace, ensuring personalized progress without requiring extra effort from teachers or parents. The teacher-centric approach makes it easy to integrate into real classroom settings, enhancing the overall learning experience.

During challenging times, staying motivated comes from witnessing the platform’s impact on students. Feedback from teachers and parents about students who previously struggled with math now enjoying the subject serves as a powerful reminder of the mission. A strong, supportive team also plays a vital role in navigating difficulties. Visiting schools and interacting with students and teachers using the platform reinforces the importance of continuing the work. Their enthusiasm and love for Evolytes provide the necessary encouragement to push forward.
For women aspiring to start their own businesses, one piece of advice is to not let rejection define the worth of an idea. A “no” from someone respected in the industry does not mean the concept lacks potential. Most successful companies have faced significant struggles, including near-bankruptcy. The key differences between those that succeed and those that don’t are resourcefulness, creativity, and perseverance. Believing in one’s vision, even when others do not see it yet, is crucial. The early stages of any venture are filled with doubt, but persistence and adaptability lead to success.
Balancing work and personal life as an entrepreneur requires self-awareness and discipline. While entrepreneurship demands time and energy, creating space for personal growth, family, and self-care is equally important. Setting clear boundaries and defining work hours help prevent burnout. Scheduling downtime and prioritizing projects at work that provide energy also contribute to a more sustainable balance. Recognizing that balance is a dynamic process rather than a fixed state makes it easier to manage both professional and personal responsibilities.

“Trust yourself, and don’t let rejection discourage you.”
For aspiring female entrepreneurs in 2025, the message is clear: there is no predefined mold for success. Unique perspectives and approaches are strengths that should be embraced. Obstacles, doubters, and challenges will always exist, but perseverance and resourcefulness will lead to breakthroughs. Trusting oneself and not allowing rejection to be discouraging is essential. Many of today’s most successful companies were once dismissed as impractical ideas. Failure is not the opposite of success but rather part of the process. Learning from every experience, adapting quickly, and moving forward with determination will ultimately lead to success.
Above all, aspiring entrepreneurs should remember that their ideas and contributions matter. The world needs more women-led innovations, and their journeys have the potential to inspire countless others. Viewing oneself as a founder, rather than being limited by gender, can help change the game and drive meaningful progress in the industry.
